What to do when you go home after Revision Rhinoplasty

What will happen in the recovery period?

For the first 24 hours after surgery your face will feel puffy and your nose may ache - however prescribed pain medication will control this.

What about bruising and swelling?

You will have bruising and swelling around the eyes, which lasts for 2 -3 weeks.

Will there be bleeding?

A little bleeding is common in the early days after surgery and you may be asked not to blow your nose for a week or so to allow the nasal tissue, to heal.

When will my dressings and stitches be removed?

By the end of one week, all dressings, splints and stitches should be removed.

What is the recovery time from revision rhinoplasty surgery?

Each patient is individual so no definite timescale for recovery can be given. However, most revision rhinoplasty patients are up and about within a couple of days after surgery.

When can I become active again?

For 2 -3 weeks you'll be asked to avoid strenuous activity, with no contact sport for 6 weeks.

When can I return to work?

You should be able to return to work after just a week. However, in some cases, your surgeon may recommend that you take 10-14 days off from work.

What if something goes wrong?

Once you're home, contact your surgeon immediately if you:

  • Experience shortness of breath, chest pains or unusual heart beats.
  • Notice any signs of infection.
  • Experience bleeding.
  • Experience a sudden increase in pain.

Above all, get plenty of rest and allow your body to spend its energy on healing.
