What are the risks associated with Neck Lift Surgery?
Like all surgical procedures, with neck lift surgery there is always a possibility of complications. Although these complications are extremely rare, they can include:
- Infection.
- Unsatisfactory results.
- Unsatisfactory results.
- The need for second or sometimes third procedures.
Another risk factor when it comes to a neck lift is haematoma or the accumulation of blood and/or fluid under the surface of the skin. When this happens if it is excessive enough it can necessitate a second surgery needing to be performed.
What about bruising and swelling?
You will feel tired and sore for a few days and will have swelling and bruising, which is only natural. Most of your discomfort will be subsided with prescription medication.
What about scarring?
Yes. The scars will be firm and pink for at least six weeks and may remain the same size for several months and it is important to keep in mind that they may take up to 2 years to fade. You will have follow-up visits in the months after surgery to check on your progress.
What about numbness or tingling sensation?
After a neck lift, it is common to feel a variety of strange sensations in the neck area as it begins to heal. Your neck may also feel tight or tingly. Some patients report feeling such sensations as pulling or burning. Do not be alarmed by this.
Numbness may be felt at this time as well. All of these sensations are perfectly normal and, unless they continue to get worse over time or persist for too long, are not a cause for concern.
What if I am a smoker?
Smokers may be precluded from having surgery until they cease or substantially reduce their daily cigarette intake. This is because of the additional healing and infection risks experienced with patients who smoke.
