Laser Skin Resurfacing

Introduction, Laser resurfacing can give excellent results in treating fine superficial wrinkles around the mouth, eyes & cheeks. It is a treatment to improve skin texture for whole or partial face with the removal of acne scars, blemishes, multiple lines and sun-damaged skin with approximately 50% improvement.

How does it work?

The top layers of damaged and wrinkled skin are removed revealing a younger and more youthful appearance.

What areas can be treated?

Deep laugh and frown creases can be softened, some acne and surgical scars can be minimised, fine lines around the eyes and mouth can be smoothed. The laser can also be used in conjunction with face lifts and eyelid surgery to smooth any fine lines that would normally remain.

How is the treatment performed?

As the laser beam is used, it feels like an elastic band hitting the skin. The laser vaporises the upper skin layers, which allows the skin to regenerate in a more organised fashion to produce a softer, less wrinkled surface.

How long will the treatment and recovery take?

The procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic and can last from a few seconds up to a few hours depending on the area of skin being treated. If the procedure is combined with other cosmetic surgery a general anaesthetic may be required. Generally patients enjoy a short recovery time after skin resurfacing with minimal disruption of their routine.

Are there any side effects?

As with any medical procedure there can be side effects. There will be an initial redness which will fade in a few weeks to light pink, this is easily camouflaged with cosmetics and usually disappears completely in one to three months. Some swelling may occur and rarely there may be a change in skin pigmentation in treated areas (lightening or darkening).
