What are the risks associated with Fat Injections?

Fewer risks are associated with fat injections compared with other surgical procedures. Also, because fat injections use fat harvested from your own body, any form of allergic reaction is prevented.

What about infection?

Infection can be associated with any and all injectable procedures. This risk can be minimised by the sterile technique used and an antibiotic prescription for a few days.

Will there be scarring or bleeding?

Most people experience some swelling and redness for the first 24-48 hours. Itching and mild discomfort is not uncommon.

What about asymmetry?

If fat is injected into two or more areas, patients may have asymmetry whereby the fat appears uneven in different areas.

What about weight gain in the injected areas?

As injected fat cells continue to function in their new location, weight gain (even a long time after the procedure) may be associated with increase in size of the injected fat cells. This must be considered when a future weight gain is anticipated, especially in the lips.
