How to get back on your feet quickly after
Cosmetic Surgery

Throughout this website, we have stressed how important it is to be fully informed about your chosen procedure before making that final all-important decision whether or not to go ahead.

Pre-surgery and post-op preparation will greatly help you have a smooth, stress-free recovery. By following the simple advice below, you’ll allow yourself more time to rest and get back into shape!

Who should I have with me after surgery?
At such a sensitive time, it is important that the person taking care of you for a few days after your procedure is YOUR choice. The person in question need not be your partner, but should be a capable person who is able to deal with any stressful situations which may arise.

What about arranging transportation?
Most patients will find that they are unable to drive themselves home after surgery, so arrange transportation early with a friend or family member. It can also a good idea to have a backup driver just in case plans change at the last minute.

What about prescriptions?

Fill in any prescriptions at least the day before surgery. You’ll want any pain medications handy immediately when you arrive home.

What about on the eve of surgery?
To deal effectively with stress on the eve of your surgery, using deep breathing or meditation techniques can be helpful. Watching a light-hearted funny movie can also be a great idea as it can help release the tension from inside your body.

Although the recovery time varies greatly with each different procedure and complications can extend the time, the above tips can have you back on your feet again quickly and healthily. You might even find yourself ready to return to your normal activities faster than you thought it possible.

What about make-up (post-surgery)?
Camouflage make-up can be professionally applied, or in less severe cases can be done at home. This can cover residual bruising and discolouration and allow you to return to work sooner without any visible signs of surgery.

What if something goes wrong?
Once you’re home, contact your surgeon immediately if you:

  • Experience shortness of breath, chest pains or unusual heart beats
  • Notice any signs of infection
  • Experience bleeding
  • Experience a sudden increase in pain

How important is rest?
The most important and effective way to recover quickly from any surgical procedure is to rest as much as possible. Sleep as much as you can and drink plenty of fluids.
