What happens on the day?

It's finally here, your surgery day, but what happens now?

Firstly you will be greeted by the nursing staff and taken to your room.

Your bags will be put away and you will be made comfortable by the staff.

If payment for your surgery is not already made, the cashier will come to collect the money from you, though most patients have settled the quote before the day of surgery.

Once you are settled, the nurse will then come in and do your pre-operative check.

This is where your blood pressure, weight, height, and personal next of kin details are taken.

The surgeon will come and see you and check you are OK, and "mark up" where the treatment will be done, he/she will also be able to answer any last minute questions or queries you have.

We recommend that for your own comfort you take along nightwear, a dressing gown, slippers and any toiletries you may want to take.

You may also take some food or drink with you though you cannot have this until after surgery.

We sometimes find that patients do not want to come to hospital on their own for surgery, and so we can usually arrange a local hotel room at a discounted rate, to enable relatives to sit with you in your private hospital room returning to the hospital the next day ready to accompany you home.

After the surgery you will be taken back to your room where you can recover in comfortable surroundings, and you can relax with nursing staff there in case you need anything.

During your stay we will make sure you have: Privacy and dignity at all times, a range of meals, with a variety of choice, including those suitable for special dietary or clinical needs, at least one visit every day from a senior member of the nursing team, and 24 hour access to a doctor in accordance with your medical needs.

When you return home we aim to ensure that you'll be provided with all the necessary advice, information and medical supplies to enable your immediate return to your home, you will be given all relevant contact details to enable you to call us at any time should any problems arise, and you will be contacted by a someone here once you have returned home, to confirm you are making a satisfactory recovery and to provide you with any further advice or aftercare you may require.
