What are the risks associated with Capsular Contraction?
Capsular contracture is the most common complication associated with breast augmentation and can happen at any time, but seems to be more common in the first few months after surgery.
Correction of capsular contracture may require surgical removal or release of the capsule, or removal and possible replacement of the implant itself.

Full capsule removal is an invasive procedure, but it offers excellent results in resolving capsular constriction issues.
Like all surgical procedures, with capsular contraction there is always a possibility of complications. Although these complications are extremely rare, they can include:
- Infection.
- Adverse reaction to anaesthesia.
- Excessive bleeding.
- Loss of nipple or breast sensitivity.
- Unsatisfactory results.
- The loss of breastfeeding ability and the possible recurrence of the contracture problem.
What about clotting and bleeding?
Sometimes there can be excessive bleeding or formation of a clot, which would also need to be removed. There may also be excessive bleeding after the operation has been performed. If the surgeon finds that there is excessive bleeding, then they might have to remove this from the area.
What about capsular contracture?
Capsular contracture at the site of the calf implant may occur. This means the connecting scar that surrounds the implant will tighten and the calves will get very hard. If so, the tissue which has become hardened would need to be removed.
Will I feel numb after surgery?
You may experience some numbness or a tingling feeling. This will go away in time.
Could the implants break under pressure?
Normally the implants won't break under pressure. If the implant does break open and the silicone gel connects with the surrounding tissue, then the shape of the calf would be considerably changed.
