What to do when you go home after a Brow Lift
Following brow lift surgery, make sure that you have someone to take you home and who can look after you for at least a couple of days.
Is there much post-surgery discomfort?
Patients may experience numbness and mild swelling, but any discomfort should be minimal and easily controlled by medication.
You may be told to keep your head elevated for two to three days following surgery to control swelling. Bandages are removed one or two days following brow lift surgery and sutures or metal clips removed in 10 days to two weeks.
What about scarring?
The scars will usually fade over 3 to 6 months and you will have follow-up visits in the months after surgery to check on your progress.
When can I be up and about again?
You should be up and about in a day or two, but plan on taking it easy at first. Your surgeon will give you more specific guidelines for gradually resuming your normal activities but above all, get plenty of rest and allow your body to spend its energy on healing.
What about bathing?
You should be able to shower and shampoo your hair within five days, or as soon as the bandage is removed.
When can I return to normal activities?
Your surgeon will advise you about this. Strenuous exertion should be avoided for about a month, along with prolonged exposure to the sun. The average recovery time is between two to three weeks depending on the individual patient.
When can I go back to work?
Most patients are back to work in a week to ten days.
What if something goes wrong?
Once you're home, contact your surgeon immediately if you:
- Experience shortness of breath, chest pains or unusual heart beats.
- Notice any signs of infection.
- Experience bleeding.
- Experience a sudden increase in pain.
Above all, get plenty of rest and allow your body to spend its energy on healing.
