Mr. Tim Burge Consultant Plastic Surgeon in Bristol
Mr. Tim Burge has an established cosmetic surgery clinic in Bristol and is originally from the area where he attended Colston’s School. He went on to medical school at Bristol University. He qualified (MB ChB) in 1981, and then was a house surgeon and house physician in Taunton.
Mr Burge then went into the Army, serving as Regimental Medical Officer to the Scots Guards and the Cheshire Regiment in Hong Kong.
In 1985, he made surgery his specialisation and he carried out his training in military hospitals in the UK in London, Northern Ireland, and Yorkshire, along with Nepal and Hong Kong. By 1986, Mr. Burge had begun his work is the field of plastic surgery. In 1988 he became a Fellow of the College of Surgeons of England (FRCS).
During the first Gulf war he served in Saudi Arabia as part of the Army Burn Team. When his service was completed here, he was sent to the National Health Service (NHS) in Basingstoke and Edinburgh for further training in general surgery. After this he began to study plastic surgery as his sub-specialisation, also in the UK.
Mr. Burge served as a Plastic Surgery Registrar at St. John’s Hospital (Livingston), and the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Edinburgh. He was then Senior Registrar at Queen Mary’s University Hospital in London. In 1996, he successfully completed the Intercollegiate Fellowship exam in Plastic Surgery (FRCS(Plast)). After this he went to study in the USA. He primarily worked at the US Army burn unit in San Antonio Texas but also visited many other units across the USA.
Later that same year, Mr. Burge returned to England as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Royal Army Medical Corps. He was appointed as Consultant Plastic Surgeon at the Royal Hospital Haslar in Portsmouth. Here he cared for British servicemen as well as their families. At this point in time he also became the head physician in burn care for the Armed Forces.
Mr. Burge rounded out his Army career by serving in Bosnia and Kuwait. He also visited more units in the USA, France and Nepal.
In 2001, Mr. Burge left the Army and accepted what is his current position at Frenchay Hospital in Bristol as a Consultant for burns and plastic surgery.
Mr. Burge currently has special interest in treating severely injured adults and children who are victims of burns and may require reconstruction. He is also involved with trauma care and care of cancer patients. He continues his work in aesthetic surgery and takes on a number of medico-legal cases. Mr. Burge is published in various medical journals and has spoken on many topics to prestigious learned societies. He also takes a leading role in the training of the next generation of plastic surgeons. He is listed on the General Medical Council Specialist Register (2702249).
