Maintaining Healthy Weight Loss

To lose weight in a healthy and effective manner, you need to make sure you introduce changes to your lifestyle in a way that does not do damage to your body and in a way that is suitable to you and your situations. .

Effective weight loss does not happen overnight .

It is no good jumping straight into ten mile runs as you will not be able to achieve this if you are used to less physical activity. Likewise you can cause yourself harm, leaving you unable to continue exercise and stop the process altogether.

The best way is to introduce a gradual change to your lifestyle, ditching the car for shorter journeys, getting up to turn off the television instead of using the remote controller and eating plenty of fruit.

Any excess physical activity will burn off fat that has been stored in your body as it will work towards balancing the intake of calories and the burning of it through exercise. When we eat food, the body stores energy for our day to day tasks, so when we do nothing to use this energy it simply becomes fat.

Lots of small changes add up.

The same principles can be applied to dieting; instead of jumping straight into a strict diet it is best to ease the body into a new healthy regime. By doing this you will not run the risk of developing any eating disorders.

As it will be tough on your body you are also more likely to give up altogether. Instead you should cut back on a smaller amount of calories a day (a few hundred), which is a more manageable and realistic way of cutting back and will add up to a significant weight loss in the long run.

There are many ways of making these cut backs and it of course all starts in the shops – you can’t eat fatty foods and snacks if you don’t buy them in the first place so perhaps ignoring the impulse to buy sale crisps or pizza will also be of benefit in the long term.

All of this shows that although you should take your weight loss seriously, you also need to be patient and set yourself realistic goals. Think about the times of day when you could be eating healthily or exercising – when you’re watching television there’s nothing stopping you finding a way of getting physical activity at the same time or eating an apple.
