Mr. Lucian Ion is a highly-experienced Harley Street plastic surgeon specializing in aesthetic surgery, including face lifts, facial sculpting, primary and secondary rhinoplasty, breast surgery, and post-bariatric body contouring. As the director of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, Mr. Ion strongly believes in providing cosmetic surgery services with the utmost attention to detail.

In addition to his practice, Mr. Ion is involved in research, investigating the possibilities for computer technology in the plastic surgery world. Always learning and staying at the cutting edge of his field, he is part of a team of scientists evaluating the role that 3-D imaging and photography can play in assessing and planning facial procedures (including rhinoplasty and facial rejuvenation). He is also studying the usefulness of this technology for planning liposuctions, breast reductions, and breast augmentations. Mr. Ion strongly believes that developing tools to enhance doctor-patient communication is vital, as this helps patients understand, plan, and make decisions regarding their surgery, especially in delicate areas like the face, where every detail is crucial. This is why, at every consultation, he uses his expertise and state-of-the-art imaging software to show patients all the possibilities of new looks that are achievable with the desired procedures.
He is also researching new approaches for managing lipodystrophy, a debilitating disease that causes patients to lose or abnormally develop the fatty tissues of the face and body.
Mr. Ion holds a medical degree from the University of Bucharest, and has trained all over Europe and the UK. He began his career in Paris, completing residencies in general and plastic surgery at numerous prestigious hospitals there. He then moved on to Britain, and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS), after passing the required examinations. He also completed a fellowship at The Wellington Hospital in London, before finishing his advanced practice in several central-London plastic surgery units. His training encompassed all aspects of cosmetic surgery.
After completing this extensive preparation, Mr. Ion took and passed both the Intercollegiate Board and European Board exams in plastic surgery. He is now included on the General Medical Council’s Register of Medical Specialists, under the Plastic Surgery entry.
In 2000, the same year he established Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, Mr. Ion was appointed to the National Health Service as Consultant Plastic Surgeon at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. He still holds this position, and regularly treats patients there.
His NHS position has also afforded Mr. Ion the opportunity to join a multidisciplinary group of doctors investigating the management of skin malignancies. This comes in addition to his specialties in general and reconstructive plastic surgery, especially post-bariatric reshaping.
Mr. Ion's findings have been published extensively in medical journals, and he has lectured and demonstrated nationally and internationally, at numerous centres and conferences. He holds memberships in the British Association of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS), the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS), and the British Burn Association. Television documentaries about plastic surgery in the UK and worldwide have regularly featured him, notably including programs airing on Discovery Health and Channel 5. He has also appeared in various newspapers and magazines, sharing his depth of knowledge about several topics, including facial surgery, rhinoplasty, and the adoption of new technologies into his clinical practice.
