General Medical Council

The General Medical Council is the regulatory body of medical profession in the United Kingdom. They are responsible for licenscing doctors, as well as ensuring that proper standards are met. They conduct investigations into misconduct and fitness to practice and can place restrictions and in some cases they have the power to revoke a doctors licence to practice altogether.

You should ask the GMC if your cosmetic surgeon is on the plastic surgery section of its register. Any surgeon who is appointed as a consultant on NHS must be on this plastic surgery section of its register and have shown they have the relevant training and skills.

This means that they have qualified as a doctor and then they have successfully completed specialist training in plastic surgery (usually for six years).

We are able to supply you with the GMC registration number of all the cosmetic surgeons we work with. You can check if a doctor is currently registered with the General Medical Council by calling them on 08453 573456 or visting www.gmc-uk.org
