Brow Lift Surgery

This procedure is a subtle lifting of the skin of the forehead often combined with some removal of underlying muscle and tissue to give a more youthful appearance to the upper part of the face. Surgery will correct drooping of eyebrows, loose skin and give some improvement to facial lines.

Benefits

Usually, aged people are those who may need a brow lift surgery. Why? Because, in time the eyebrows seem to drop and creases appear in the forehead. Therefore, the facial appearance looks tired and sad.

But sometimes, even the young people may have their eyebrows in a low position and as a result the eyelids appear to have excess skin. However, by repositioning the eyebrows, the eyelid lift can be avoided in the case of younger patients.

So, it appears that the Brow Lift Surgery is the appropriate treatment for eyebrow descent. Why appeal to botox when this popular procedure offers better and longer lasting results? The natural expression can also be preserved by undergoing a brow lift, which is unlikely when injecting toxins in the skin.

In conclusion, please take a look below at the main benefits of this cosmetic surgery:

  • It lifts the forehead to achieve a more rejuvenated look of the eyebrows and forehead.
  • It solves the problems related to forehead wrinkles due to the new techniques of eye brow surgery
  • It corrects asymmetry of the forehead and eyebrows.
  • It achieves a natural facial expression without an operated appearance. You won't look like a doll!
  • It boosts one's self esteem and life enjoyment

Operation performance

There can be two types of brow lift surgery: coronal and endoscopic.

The most common one is the endoscopic brow lift. It is called endoscopic because the dissection is assisted with the use of an endoscope. During the operation, the tissues of the forehead are lifted from the bone and repositioned higher. Four small incisions are made in the hairline. Portions of facial muscle and excess skin may also need to be removed. The incision is then closed with stitches or clips. Drains may be required.

During the second type of procedure, a coronal incision is made across top of scalp, behind the hairline. The coronal brow lift is less used than the first method. A variation of this operation can be used to both stretch the skin of the forehead and lower the hairline. If this is the case, the scar is placed on the edge of the hairline at the top of the forehead. A light support dressing will be used across the forehead.

The clips placed in the scalp will be removed after 2 weeks.

The operation usually requires general anesthesia, meaning the patient will be asleep. Usually, the hospital stay will not last more than one night.

Brow Lift are usually done in conjunction with a facelift or eyelid operation.

Risks

As in any other cosmetic procedure, understanding the risks is an important step needed to be taken by each patient. The complications of this procedure are of rareity and usually they can be treated.

Below are a few of the following possible complications:

Infection

This type of complication may occur after any surgery, although it is exceedingly infrequent. During and prior to the operation, the patient is given antibiotics.

Frontal Hairline Alteration

It is also possible to notice a reduction in hair density around the incision lines. So, the scar may become noticeable unless the hairstyle is designed to conceal it. With endoscopic surgery the incisions are placed within the hair, so the hairline is very little displaced.

Hair Loss

Temporary or permanent hair loss can occur following a brow lift. But this is very rare, and most of the time, the hair will grow back to its initial state.

Forehead Lag

Some patients may experience a decreased feeling in the forehead which is most commonly temporary. This is a result of the stretching or injury to the nerves. Although this operation removes the forehead wrinkles, it may remove animation of the forehead as well. This temporary paralysis recovers over 8-12 weeks. Permanent loss of sensation rarely happens.

Skin Necrosis

Some small areas of skin may become dead after the brow lift surgery. If this complication ever occurs, the area is usually within the hair bearing scalp. The problem can be solved by a minor corrective procedure.

Lagophthalmos

This means that the patient is unable to fully close the eyes. It may rarely happen to the patients who underwent a blepharoplasty prior to a brow lift.

Changes of Facial Expression

The patient's facial expression may be modified after the elevation of the eyebrows and especially where intensive swelling has occurred. As the swelling heals, the skin of the forehead gradually resettles to its natural position.

Asymmetry

It is known that asymmetry is common to each human face. So, correction of these asymmetries may not be achievable 100%. However, surgeons do their best to make adjustments so that it becomes hardly noticeable.

Eyebrow Shape

In most cases, the eyebrow shape will not be changed by the brow lift surgery. So if it happens, it is exceedingly uncommon.

Before the operation, the patient would like to talk with the surgeon concerning the technique, risks, preparation, qualification, costs and other issues. We have listed below some of the most specific questions that might concern the patient:
